Mantero ReSilk Upholstery Fabrice
Mantero, an Italian manufacturer of silk for top fashion brands since 1902, is entering the upholstery fabric market with ReSilk, a plush felt made from 50 percent pre-consumer recycled silk and 50 percent wool. The naturally flame- retardant fabric is recyclable and biodegradable, and is manufactured in a water-based, mechanical process without chemical additives or toxic byproducts. Combining softness with sheen, the nonwoven fabric-available in a range of thicknesses-can be printed, dyed, and even molded or laser-engraved. Poly Seating
The Poly line of modern seating from Metro, a Steelcase company, doesn’t look anything like your uncle’s old leisure suits—but they’re both all about polyester. The lounge, side, and swivel chairs (and matching ottoman) feature organic molded shells, fabrics, and even glue made of pre- and post-consumer recycled polyester: PET (polyethylene terephthalate), the same plastic in soda bottles. These PVC-free chairs are certified as a Cradle to Cradle Silver Product by MBDC, and are 100 percent recyclable through the Steelcase Environmental Partnership Program. Haworth Access Flooring
TecCrete and Nexus access flooring from Haworth have achieved SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification for low emissions. The TecCrete concrete-and-steel system, which requires no finish flooring, is quiet and sturdy underfoot. It’s available in heights from 3 to 30 inches to accommodate nearly any cabling and air distribution requirement. The Nexus system is a low-profile (2.5-inch) raised floor made of steel-wrapped MDF panels, with cable management designed right in—no need for cable trays.
